  2. A thought along the lines of what Bonnie said, maybe there could be throwback contests to old themes? There are plenty of fantastic themes that just kind of are forgotten and could use a fresh take. The old west theme, pretty much any old space theme, adventurers, Power Miners, etc.
  3. @Bonnie Mohnsen That is a good point. They do lack definition. I am a little limited by the pixel size and Lego’s available colors. I assume you’re talking about the Chespin one, which is based on someone else’s custom pixel art for the mon. The other three are all the actual in-game sprites for the Pokemon, so I didn’t elaborate primarily for fidelity to the source material. Thanks for the feedback!

It could then be potentially the next official LEGO IDEAS set that will be available for purchase at LEGO Shop at Home (USA | Canada | UK | Australia). LEGO IDEAS Floating Sea Otter by HisBrickMaterials is the approved winning creation that will be made into an official LEGO IDEAS set. The second approved winning creation is LEGO Snoopy Campfire by bossofdos64. Congrats to the winning LEGO IDEAS creation designers. The winning creations will probably take about a year or more before they become officially available for sale at LEGO Shop at Home (USA | Canada | UK | Australia). LEGO needs to design the packaging, instructions and more first. Two other creations from the second 2024 LEGO IDEAS review will require additional time for the review board. A decision will be announced most likely in several more months on whether these LEGO IDEAS creations will be made into a LEGO set. 10. I like the second one best - the eyes and face show more detail - perhaps you can add more facial detail to the other 3. Thanks for stepping out there with your creations.
  11. Although I haven't watched Lord of the Rings, that set does indeed look really nice and detailed. This is a good one. Very realistic and has lots of cool features and minifigures for Star Wars fans. The Daily Bugle is really popular and sells well. I think the new UCS Jabba Sail Barge looks great too but the price point is very high for that set. But if you are a LEGO Star Wars fan, there's no doubt you gotta get it too. 😉

  14. Toys R Us USA filed for bankruptcy in 2017 and eventually all stores in US, UK and Australia were closed and liquidated in 2018. The Toys R Us Canada portfolio was profitable though and Fairfax Financial Holdings bought it from Toys R Us in 2018. In 2021, Toys R Us Canada was sold again to Putman Investments. Thank you for your support! ( : There's no official press release from Toys R Us Canada regarding stores closing down in 2025. Though, there are reports that quite a few Toys R Us Canada locations are closing down quietly. Back in 2024, there were about 80 physical brick & mortar locations across Canada. Earlier a few months ago, there were reports that several Toys R Us Canada stores located in the province of Ontario were shutting down. Shown below is the ToysRUs Exclusive LEGO 40228 Geoffrey & Friends set that was released back in the year 2016. It has the Toys R Us Mascot - Geoffrey. BC Metro Vancouver Toys R Us Canada Store Closures 2025 Now, those living in the province of British Columbia will have several of their stores closing down as well. Shoppers are seeing the closing signs at the stores. In Greater Metro Vancouver, the following stores will be closing/shutting down in the next few months. Vancouver Broadway - Toys R Us Canada Store Closing Station Square Metrotown Burnaby - Toys R Us Canada Store Closing Lansdowne Mall Richmond - Toys R Us Canada Store Closing The Vancouver Broadway is pretty much the biggest Toys R Us store that's in Metro Vancouver. The Richmond location was also decent and busy as it was located in a mall. Same goes for the Metrotown location where it was very busy as well. However, they did relocate from Metrotown mall to Station Square a year or so ago. Ever since they relocated to Station Square in Burnaby, that store is like a ghost town. Shown below is the Toys R Us Canada logo. A few years ago, they shut down the suburb Coquitlam, BC location as well as the suburb Surrey Central, BC locations. They never relocated or reopened a store for these suburb cities. About 10 years ago, Toys R Us Canada had a single store in pretty much every single suburb city of Metro Vancouver (Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Coquitlam, Surrey, Langley). With the Vancouver, Burnaby and Richmond city stores shutting now, that leaves pretty much no more Toys R Us Canada store locations in the urban Greater Metro Vancouver area. The only remaining store will be in Willowbrook, Langley Township which is near the outskirts of Metro Vancouver (about 60 minutes drive from Downtown Vancouver). Shown below is the LEGO City 7848 ToysRUs Delivery Truck set that was released back in the year 2010. Toys R Us Canada: More Store Closures or The End of an Era? It's very sad to see what's happening to Toys R Us Canada. But the last few years, they don't seem to be doing as well. A lot of their LEGO toys (and possibility other toy products they sell as well) are marked up quite a bit. Sales were not as good as before too. In the past, they didn't mark up the regular price of LEGO toys that much. With the markups, the savings discounts are not even that great anymore nowadays. Some of the 2024 Black Friday and Boxing Day Holiday LEGO sales weren't even that great. Toys R Us Canda LEGO Bricktober which happens in every year in October was not that good either ever since Toys R Us USA went bankrupt. Hopefully, Toys R Us Canada can go through the tough times and not shut down all of its stores and operations. Though, it is pretty significant that they are closing multiple stores across the country. We're assuming that they are closing stores where leases have either expired or the stores are underperforming/not profitable. Shown below is the Toys R Us logo. 18. Super glad there is nothing here I have to have! I just finished paying for Harbormaster's Office and Camping Adventure from Series 3
  19. I never got any of them, but I really liked the concept of Hidden Side. The heavy push for app-based play kind of killed it but I thought it was cool. As strange as the Ben 10 sets were, looking back on them I really appreciate most of those old ball joint building system themes. Hero Factory, late Bionicle, Ben 10, the super heroes ones, Star Wars. I wish I'd gotten more into them when they were around and less expensive than they are now.
  20. Hey there! Sorry for my lateness but I would like to enter this contest! I posted a couple of posts/comments on some things I've been thinking about, specifically about the upcoming Pokemon theme in the Discussions section and some mosaics over in the MOC section. I'm not the most active forums guy but hopefully I'll keep my head in the game and contribute to this community. Thanks for having me!
  21. Over the past few months off and on, I've been toying with the Bricklink Studio design app, specifically working on various Pokemon mosaics. It started with a mosaic of the HeartGold/SoulSilver Cyndaquil sprite as a gift for a friend back in December of 2023. Since then, I've made sprite mosaics for all 27 starters using primarily the Black/White sprites for Gens 1-5 and then custom sprites I found online as the base for Gens 6-9. I also made a Mew, Victini, and Shaymin. Bulbasaur's sprite definitely doesn't lend itself well to Lego's current range of colors, but all of the sprites I made are fully orderable using the Bricklink marketplace and are all on a 48x48 baseplate so they work well to be hung on a wall. I've attached some images of some of the sprites below, but feel free to ask if you'd like images of the others or piece lists. Also, do you have any feedback on how I might make these better? Any suggestions for future Pokemon mosaics? They have to be small since the sprite mosaic size doesn't lend itself well to anything over 44x44 pixels.
  22. I know I haven't been active at all for a long while, but I do really like the micro build contest format. While thinking about different contest ideas, I remembered the old official Lego contest site before they moved it over to Lego Ideas (was it called Rebrickable?). One of the last contests they had on there was for the Lego Batman Movie and had people use their Legos to create comics/comic panels for a certain theme. The contest I'm remembering had the prompt of Batman trying to get back into the Justice League after stealing the Phantom Zone gun in the movie. I know that DC is pretty much a dead theme (unless something miraculous happens and they can pull away from the DCEU), but that might be a cool idea for some future Marvel contest. It might work for pretty much any action theme honestly, but given the lack of action themes in recent years it would probably be better for Marvel.
  23. Hey there! I'm not much of a forum guy, so hopefully I'm in the right place here. For context, I'm a big Pokemon and Lego nerd, so I got really excited (and my fiscally responsible side screamed) when I saw the announcement about the Lego Pokemon theme coming in 2026. I talked to a few of my friends (also Lego/Pokenerds) and looked around on some other news sites for information, but as expected, info is pretty sparse. What I have been able to find is that apparently MEGA (formerly Megablocks, which used to hold the Pokemon license) hasn't released any new sets/products for Pokemon this year, which makes me wonder exactly when the license expired/expires since they renewed it in late 2022 according to a quick google search. If I had to guess though, they still technically hold the license since Lego is waiting until 2026. Here's the big question for you guys, and the reason I started this post: What do you think the first wave of Pokemon sets will look like, and how might consecutive waves be structured? I've been thinking long and hard on this since the announcement, and I have my two cents here in case anyone wants a conversation starter. The first "rule" I've been keeping in mind is that Lego will not be copying what MEGA did, at least not very closely. This is (presumably) the reason why we haven't gotten any Mario minifigures yet, even though the Sonic and Animal Crossing themes rely heavily on them. Because of this, I highly doubt the main sets we will see will be evolutionary families as a block (at least not at first) or random habitat locations. That said, I do think one thing that Lego might do is make at least two CMF lines for the Pokemon. I would personally love to see this as it would give a great opportunity to get some less overtly popular first-stage mons (I'm thinking along the lines of Beldum, Sandile, etc... Anything that isn't Pikachu, Eevee, or a starter). I do NOT think that these CMF figs would have pokeballs since that's pretty close to MEGA's line, but I could see something like what the Mario series did/has been doing for the little character packs. Pokeballs will make an appearance in some way. They have to. Personally, I'd like to see a line of different styles of pokeballs with final evolutions as little display models, sort of along the size line as the medium/small botanical sets (e.g., Plum Blossom). Unfortunately, I can also see this going another way where they make a giant $200 pokeball with a little diorama inside. Cute, but not great in my opinion. I am a sucker for maps, so if they would make an art set with the region maps of maybe Kanto and Johto to start out with that'd be really cool. I could also see some midi-scale Architecture-style buildings with micro Pokemon builds (e.g., the burned tower from Johto or Prism Tower from Kalos). One thing that I think would make a cool set would be a Pokemon Center (basic, but a staple), however, since MEGA just did that in 2023, I doubt we'll see that at least in the first year. One thing that I can't decide on is whether or not they'll include minifigs. MEGA hasn't done it, so we have that going for us, but brick-building Pokemon makes more sense on a mid scale, meaning that minifigs would be out of the question. Unfortunately, current Lego trends have been heavily favoring TV, movies, and video games over any other source, so I could see minifigs from the anime (especially since the Pokemon company needs a way to draw in young fans after the reboot) or movies (I think Netflix is still making a live-action show?) or maybe the base characters from the games, but I can also see them ignoring this entirely. If I had to guess, since the Legends Z-A game releases late this year, the first big push for game-based sets would be for the games after that (either the next Let's Go installment, the next remake, or Gen 10, whichever comes first), which will likely drop in late 2026 if I'm reading patterns correctly. One thing that I really like doing in the Pokemon games is shiny hunting, which led me to wonder if that will be a mechanic in these sets, even if it's just in the potential CMF line. They've done that sort of thing multiple times, and as evil as it would be, it would really boost sales from people like me who are collectors at heart. The last two things I was thinking about were the card game and video games. I can very easily see Lego and the Pokemon TCG doing a crossover thing, where the cards would be Lego Pokemon and have some Legos in them and some Lego sets would include cards (maybe similar to the Chima Speedorz cards?). Second, do you think there will be a Lego Pokemon game? Pokemon Quest is already a very blocky game, and reskinning it to be Lego could make a lot of sense, but would there be a separate (probably mobile) game with scanning function in the sets? This may be a hot take, but because of Lego's constant push towards digitizing themes, they have ruined some really good ideas (I'm looking at you Hidden Side and Mario), but now that they're partnering with people that have a lot of mobile and console game experience, I could totally see a gacha-style game like a blend of TCG pocket and Pokemon Quest that gives rewards/currency for scanning cards found in sets. Very much a cash grab, but it seems right up Lego and Pokemon's respective alleys. Sorry for the book of a post, but I had a lot that I've been thinking about and I'm really curious what you all are thinking about this theme.
  24. The most expensive set I have (by a big margin) is the 76178 Daily Bugle set. Nowhere near as big as most of these, but a banger set regardless. Been fighting with myself on whether or not to go after the new sail barge... Does anyone here have the new sail barge and if so, was it worth the money?

  26. I have uploaded a review and photos of the Art of Chocolate set.
  27. I just finished the Bricklink Design Program Art of Chocolate, and I found it a fun build with clever building techniques. The first part of the build includes the front foundation of the set, which leads to the second-floor front door. This was a great build-up and then put-it-on-its-side technique. The "basement" is accessed from the side door and swing-out back and includes an intricate chocolate machine build and a chocolate bar former. The stairs to the third floor are attached to this swing-out back, another smart idea! The second floor has a living room, a clever showcase, and a small kitchen. The top floor is highlighted by a tasting room and is topped by a curved, sloped roof that uses many jointed 1x4 plates and is a highlight of the set. Along with that is the large set of windows adorned by flowers that give this set its dreamland look. I highly recommend this set.
